OBJECTIVES
The aim of the project is the determination of the stresses generated by the integration of Renewable in the Grid on Nuclear Power Plants, as the CE has a target of 42 % of power provided by the Renewable within 2030.
The project is firmly aligned with the NUGENIA pillar, contributing to:
TA1 – Plant Safety and Risk Assessment
TA4 – Integrity Assessments of Systems, Structures & Components
TA6 – Innovative LWR Design & Technology
A focus will be made on the impact of large turbogenerators, step-up transformers and on the ELDN (Electrical Local Distribution Network) of NPPs. Different cases will be addressed, based on different scenarios of active power or reactive power provided or absorbed by the NPPs, especially in the extreme operating conditions defined by the new Gridcodes.
Palliative solutions to face and build the energy MIX of the future will also be addressed.

EXPECTED IMPACT
- Qualitative and quantitative information about the impact of Renewables on NPPs, despite a growing and fast rate of the % of Renewable worldwide
- Importance of tackling their impact for a smart integration to build the energy Mix of the future
- Importance of the development of solutions to limit an early aging of the equipment and damage.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Stability issues linked to the integration of Renewables in the Grid (steady state) under extreme operating conditions
- Calculation of the electrical stresses on turbogenerators under extreme conditions, under steady state conditions
- Choice and sizing of palliative solutions for thermal aspects
- On site measurements on a real case, with the choice of one NPP
- Exploitation: Identification of opportunities for technology transfer, standardization, and integration of ESGIRE results into operational practices.
