The Skills4Nuclear project, funded by Euratom, officially held its kick-off meeting on 1–2 April 2025 in Gothenburg. This three-year initiative aims to address workforce and skills challenges across Europe’s nuclear sector.
Europe needs advanced reactors and technological innovation, but it also needs skilled, motivated people. Skills4Nuclear focuses on ensuring Europe has the workforce required for nuclear technologies from fission and fusion to small modular reactors and beyond. The project also aims to provide workers with the skills, support, and opportunities needed to succeed.
The kick-off meeting was hosted by Project Coordinator Teodora Retegan Vollmer from Chalmers University of Technology. Partners from European industries, research centers, and training organizations came together to discuss the project’s main objectives.
Key activities include:
- Addressing workforce and skill shortages in EU nuclear fission and fusion sectors
- Fostering industry-driven workforce development for the European nuclear sector
- Creating a European Forum for Nuclear Workforce and Skills
- Developing a Nuclear Skills Strategy
- Implementing reskilling and upskilling programmes for workers moving into nuclear roles
- Developing recommendations and tools to attract more people to the nuclear sector
SNETP thanks all partners for their contributions, Teodora Retegan Vollmer and Chalmers University of Technology for hosting the meeting, Evalion for organizing the event, and nucleareurope for creating a strong visual identity for the project.
The team looks forward to working together to strengthen Europe’s nuclear skills base step by step.
