The SNETP Project Portfolio Webinar Series continues this autumn with its 8th edition, highlighting two Euratom-funded projects that address crucial aspects of nuclear safety, risks, and accident management.

This session will feature:

SOCRATES – Assessment of Liquid Source Term for Accidental Post Management Phase

SOCRATES aims to fill critical knowledge gaps on the liquid source term during severe nuclear accidents. By developing absorbent materials capable of effectively trapping radionuclides, the project seeks to reduce environmental releases in accident scenarios. In parallel, advanced computer models are being designed to analyse liquid source term phenomena, supporting industry, safety authorities, and the research community in strengthening nuclear power plant safety assessments.

AMHYCO – Towards Enhanced Accident Management of the Hydrogen/CO Combustion Risk

AMHYCO tackles the risks associated with hydrogen and carbon monoxide combustion during nuclear accidents, which pose a threat to containment integrity. The project advances Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMGs) for both in-vessel and ex-vessel phases, integrating results from numerical simulations and experimental studies. Additionally, AMHYCO aims to improve the accuracy of predictive tools for explosion hazard evaluation, providing practical solutions to further reduce accident risks.
