As Europe ramps up its energy transition, renewables like wind and solar often dominate the conversation, while nuclear energy remains in the shadows. In the latest EU Energy Projects Podcast, SNETP General Secretariat members Candice Boudet (CEA) and Jan Prehradný (RCR) discuss why nuclear is essential for a reliable, low-carbon energy system.
Jan Prehradný highlights a key challenge: perception. “Nuclear power plants are currently the best technical solution for providing long-term, reliable electricity safely, yet their value is often underestimated.”
While Candice Boudet points to Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) as a game-changer: smaller, quicker to build, and flexible enough to complement renewables while supporting industrial applications like hydrogen production.
If Europe is serious about climate neutrality, nuclear energy must move from the margins to the mainstream. As our members stress, the sector’s challenge is not technical feasibility, but ensuring recognition of nuclear’s critical role in the energy transition.
Meet Us at ENLIT 2025
SNETP will be in the EU Projects Zone at ENLIT 2025 this November 18-20, where we look forward to discussing the future of nuclear innovation and its role in Europe’s clean energy transition.
