SUMMARY:JRC Hot Cells: Shaping the future of nuclear science and technologies
DESCRIPTION:What can six decades of research on irradiated nuclear materials tell us about the future of nuclear safety? \nThe answer lies behind the shielded windows of the JRC Hot Cells in Karlsruhe! \nFor 60 years\, these unique European facilities have supported nuclear fuel safety research\, generated independent scientific knowledge for EU policy and trained generations of researchers and technicians. \nAcross two half-day sessions\, expert discussions\, artistic perspectives\, immersive 3D experiences and laboratory visits will take participants on a journey through six decades of Hot Cell research and innovation\, from past achievements to the ideas and collaborations shaping its future. \nThe event will bring together European policymakers\, nuclear safety authorities\, research organisations and industry representatives to discuss the contribution of the JRC Hot Cells to nuclear fuel-cycle safety and their role in emerging reactor technologies\, new fuel concepts\, waste management and cross-border research. \nOn 17 and 18 November 2026\, come to Karlsruhe to meet the people behind the work\, shake a mechanical hand\, and discover how versatility\, access and independence have shaped six decades of Hot Cell research.

SUMMARY:Advanced Nuclear Technologies in Space (ANTS 2026)
DESCRIPTION:ANTS 2026 will be the first European conference dedicated to space nuclear technologies\, bringing together leading experts from across the global space and nuclear communities. The ANTS conference was established to provide a consistent platform linking Europe’s expanding nuclear and space sectors\, as no regular forum currently exists to connect these two rapidly evolving communities. \nThe conference is organised by an international Scientific Programme Committee composed of renowned experts from leading European research institutions\, space agencies\, industry leaders\, and nuclear organisations. Their collective expertise ensures a high-quality technical programme addressing the most important scientific\, technological\, and strategic developments in the field. \nHeld in Prague\, Czech Republic\, ANTS 2026 will take place as a two-day conference complemented by optional technical tours\, providing participants with valuable opportunities for in-depth discussions\, networking\, and collaboration.

SUMMARY:Sixth International Conference on Nuclear Power Plant Life Management (PLiM 6)
DESCRIPTION:The International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) latest high case projection for nuclear power capacity in 2050 sees a 150% increase from current levels to 992 gigawatts. This reflects decisions around the world supporting the long-term operation (LTO) of existing reactors\, new construction of large nuclear power plants (NPPs)\, and the development and deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs). \nAs of June 2025\, the average age of global operational nuclear power reactors is about 32 years\, with over 67% of the total operating units being more than 30 years old. Approximately 38% of operating units are over 40 years old\, and 9% are over 50 years old. To meet decarbonization and energy security goals\, LTO of nuclear power plants has become a top priority for many nuclear power fleets. \nIn recent years\, international organizations and countries have initiated various projects on LTO beyond 60 years to identify technical gaps and seek innovative solutions to support LTO. \nMore info and registration >
