SUMMARY:Great Pioneer: Core modelling for transients’ course
DESCRIPTION:Sign up for a course on “Core modelling for transients” (3 ECTS). Registrations will open on October 13th\, 2025.  \nThis course deals with the modelling of nuclear reactors in transient conditions\, focusing on the modelling of neutron transport\, heat transfer\, fluid dynamics\, fuel thermos-mechanics\, and their interdependencies. \nThe pedagogical format of the course is based on a hybrid flipped classroom. In this format\, you need to complete some preparatory work (representing about 40 hours of work) before attending interactive classes organized during 5 consecutive days (representing about 40 hours of work). Those classes are given in a hybrid set-up\, with participants following the classes either onsite or remotely on the web. Research in engineering education demonstrated that such a teaching format leads to better learning outcomes and increases the interactions between the students and the teachers.  \nOnline self-paced learning phase taking place between December 12\, 2025\, and January 9th\, 2026. Synchronous activities offered between January 12th\, 2026\, and January 16th\, 2026 (those activities can be attended online or onsite at Chalmers University of Technology\, Gothenburg\, Sweden).  \nInterested? Head over to the Great-Pioneer website to learn more.

SUMMARY:ESARDA course on Nuclear Safeguards and Non-proliferation
DESCRIPTION:General objective \nThe ESARDA course on nuclear safeguards and non-proliferation was set up as a follow-up to the United Nations recommendations on disarmament and non-proliferation education of 2002 (United Nations\, 2002)\, to complement nuclear engineering studies by teaching the technical aspects of safeguards\, contribute to a two-fold scientific-technical and political-juridical education\, and stimulate interest in this multi-disciplinary field. \nThe ESARDA course is of major importance for technical knowledge retention and for enrolling the younger generation in the nuclear safeguards field\, since it deals specifically with technical aspects and application of safeguards and non-proliferation tools\, including examples of in-field implementation of the safeguards principles and methodology at the different nuclear facilities. \nA maximum of 34 participants is foreseen (possibility of ENEN2plus mobility grant is being investigated). All participants are requested to attend all sessions. \n\nMore info >

SUMMARY:EUSEW 2026 Session "Strategic autonomy of the EU nuclear industry as a driver of economic resilience"
DESCRIPTION:Co-organised by SNETP and Nucleareurope this session is designed to spark a concrete\, forward-looking conversation on three interconnected challenges Europe cannot afford to ignore: \n• Energy security: reducing strategic dependencies through diversified\, competitive European nuclear supply chains;\n• Industrial competitiveness: unlocking investment in established and innovative technologies\, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and nuclear fusion pilot plants;\n• Decarbonisation: the role of nuclear in supporting EU climate objectives and the Clean Industrial Deal.\n\nThe session will be structured around two “fire-starter” presentation rounds\, each followed by open Q&A with the audience. Expect moderated panel discussions\, live audience polling\, and real dialogue\, not just presentations.

SUMMARY:fiv2026 : Flow-Induced Vibration 2026
DESCRIPTION:Flow-induced vibration and noise and the physical parameters which control them are of significant importance to design engineers and operators of systems in a wide range of industries ranging from aerospace\, automotive and civil engineering to marine structures\, electricity generation and chemical processing. The potential of these phenomena to cause catastrophic failure to engineering systems and unacceptably high levels of environmental and occupational noise has required that significant effort be dedicated to understanding and mitigating against these challenges in the interests of human safety. \n\nMore info >

SUMMARY:IAEA Workshop on Structural Material Development for Molten Salt Reactors
DESCRIPTION:The introduction of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)\, particularly innovative non-water-cooled designs\, marks a new paradigm in the global energy sector. Among these\, Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs) are increasingly recognized as a transformative technology within the nuclear power landscape\, promising advancements in safety\, flexibility\, and efficiency for sustainable and clean energy deployment. \nAs part of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) efforts to support the development and deployment of innovative reactor technologies\, MSRs offer unique advantages\, including low operating pressure\, inherent safety characteristics\, and fuel flexibility. These features make MSRs attractive options for future energy systems\, including floating nuclear power plants\, power supply for ports and remote regions\, and maritime nuclear propulsion. With their ability to operate at high temperatures and accommodate a wide range of fuel cycles\, MSRs are also particularly suited for hybrid energy applications\, such as thermal energy storage\, hydrogen production\, industrial process heat\, and closing the nuclear fuel cycle through the transmutation of transuranic elements from spent fuel of conventional water-cooled reactors.

SUMMARY:IAEA Workshop on Operational Aspects of Manufacturing HALEU Advanced Fuels
DESCRIPTION:The development and deployment of High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU\, enrichment between 5% and 20%) fuels are becoming increasingly important to support the next generation of advanced reactors\, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)\, High-Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGRs)\, Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs)\, Fast Reactors (FRs)\, and some research and microreactors. HALEU fuels offer improved reactor performance\, higher efficiency\, and enhanced flexibility in reactor design. However\, their manufacturing presents unique technical\, safety\, regulatory\, and supply chain challenges. \nAdvanced reactor designs will require new or dedicated fuel fabrication facilities and supply chains. Qualification and licensing processes remain critical\, as innovative fuel designs and higher enrichments will be subject to increased scrutiny by national regulatory authorities. Furthermore\, the successful deployment of many SMR concepts depends on reliable access to HALEU\, which in turn requires the establishment of a dedicated nuclear fuel cycle infrastructure. \nWhile the higher enrichment of HALEU fuels facilitates advanced nuclear technologies\, it also introduces new technical and policy challenges. Transitioning to enrichment levels above 5% impacts all stages of the nuclear fuel cycle\, with particularly significant implications beyond 10%. To meet the diverse fuel requirements of advanced reactor designs\, new infrastructure will be needed for conversion\, enrichment\, deconversion\, and fuel fabrication. In addition\, HALEU transportation systems must be developed to comply with enhanced criticality safety requirements. Overall\, enrichment levels above 5% present substantial challenges for both suppliers and users but remain a key enabler for the deployment of next-generation nuclear technologies. \nAt the Second Meeting of the IAEA Technical Working Group on Fuel Cycle Facilities members expressed Member States’ growing interest in the design\, fabrication\, and associated challenges of HALEU fuels. It was recommended that the IAEA organize a workshop to bring together stakeholders to share knowledge and experience on operational aspects of HALEU fuel manufacturing. A considerable body of expertise already exists in Member States on HALEU fuel manufacturing\, and sharing this knowledge\, along with operating experience\, can strengthen collective capabilities to address current and future challenges. \nIn response\, the IAEA will organize a Workshop on Operational Aspects of Manufacturing High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium Advanced Fuels\, from 17 to 21 August 2026 at its Headquarters in Vienna.
