SUMMARY:GO-VIKING: Lecture Series “Fluid-Structure Interaction for Nuclear Applications”
DESCRIPTION:Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) is essential in many industrial applications and is actively studied in the nuclear sector. Knowledge and understanding of FSI and Fluid-Induced Vibration (FIV) are critical to estimating the lifetime of the different components (pipelines\, heat exchangers\, turbines\, etc.) concerning fatigue\, cracking\, possible failure modes\, and mechanical wear. Recently\, the use of numerical tools to simulate FIV has received large interest due to the availability of more computational resources and the necessity to analyze complex configurations with more details. This Lecture Series aims to provide a detailed background to welcome novices in the field and a comprehensive overview of recent developments of computational FSI in various industrial applications. \n  \nOver the course of four days\, several well-known experts from around the world\, most of them involved in the EU-funded GO-VIKING project\, will explore important topics related to FSI in order to understand and study FIV in different applications. Additionally\, an interactive panel discussion will offer insight into the perspectives of industry leaders on the challenges and solutions related to FIV in nuclear applications. \n  \nThis Lecture Series has been organized in the context of the GO-VIKING project\, which has received funding from the European Union’s Euratom research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101059603. \n  \nAgenda: VKI Lecture Series\n31 March-03 April 2025\nDay 1 – Monday\, 31/03/25 \n08:30-09:00 Registration \n09:00-09:15 Welcome Address\nVKI Director The von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI)\, Belgium \n09:15-10:45 Introduction to Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI)/Flow-Induced Vibration (FIV)\nProf. Joris Degroote\, University of Ghent\, Belgium \n10:45-11:15 Break \n11:15-12:45 FIV in Nuclear Reactor Components / Facilities Dr Pascal Veber Vattenfall\, Sweden \n12:45-14:00 Lunch \n14:00-15:30 The Importance of Understanding FIV in Nuclear Reactor Components Dr Daniele Vivaldi Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN)\, France \n15:30-16:00 Break \n16:00-17:30 The View of Industries on FIV in Nuclear Applications\nPaulus Smeekes (TVO\, Finland) Dr Hidajet Hadzic (Framatome GmbH\, Germany) Dr Pascal Veber (Vattenfall\, Sweden) Pierre Moussou (EDF\, France) \n17:30 – 19:00 Reception\, break of the ice \n  \nDay 2 – Tuesday\, 01/04/25 \n09:00-10:30 Analytical Methods for the Evaluation of FIV\nDr Angel Papukchiev Gesellschaft Fuer Anlagen-Und Reaktorsicherheit (GRS)\, Germany \n10:30-11:00 Break \n11:00-12:30 Measurement techniques for FSI/FIV in single-phase flows\nDr Mostafa Nabawy\nUniversity of Manchester\, UK \n12:30-14:00 Lunch \n14:00-15:30 Best practices to investigate single-phase FIV in bundle geometries through laboratory experiments Philippe Planquart The von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI)\, Belgium \n15:30-16:00 Break \n16:00-17:30 Visit of the GOKSTAD experimental facility \n  \nDay 3 – Wednesday\, 02/04/25 \n09:00-10:30 Computational Methods for single-phase FSI/FIV Dr Sofiane Benhamadouche Électricité de France (EdF)\, France \n10:30-11:00 Break \n11:00-12:30 Best practices to investigate single-phase FIV in bundle geometries by CFD Dr Salim Elbouzidi Canadian Nuclear Lab\, Canada \n12:30-14:00 Lunch \n14:00-15:30 Reduced-order Models for FSI/FIV Ir. SUMMARY:OFFERR Webinar: How to prepare your call proposal
DESCRIPTION:OFFERR is a European project by SNETP\, funded by EURATOM with a budget of €7 million to facilitate international cooperation in nuclear research. Its goal is to provide access to state-of-the-art nuclear infrastructures for R&D experts and channel the financial support provided by EURATOM until 2026. To achieve this\, the project has established a European User Facility Network (EUFN) database and an OFFERR catalogue containing 190+ nuclear research institutions all over Europe for which R&D experts can apply. \nThe project’s first call for proposals was launched on April 3\, 2023\, and is open to project proposals in all research disciplines and topics that align with SNETP’s Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). Project proposals supported by other European associations and organizations acting within EURATOM framework will be also considered. More details on the call and application process can be found on the OFFERR website. \nIf you need further information or clarification for your proposal preparation\, please register for this OFFERR webinar on Friday 21 April\, 09:30 – 12:00 CEST.

SUMMARY:APAL Workshop "Procedures currently applied to the integrity assessment of RPVs subjected to PTS loading"
DESCRIPTION:The APAL project will hold a workshop on “Procedures currently applied to the integrity assessment of RPVs subjected to PTS loading” on 30 and 31 March 2022 in Villigen\, Switzerland. \nIn this event experts will give an overview on the procedures currently applied to the integrity assessment of Reactor Pressure Vessels (RPVs) subjected to Pressurized Thermal Shock (PTS) loading. Current state-of-the-art for Long Term Operation (LTO) improvements will be presented (results from Work Package One (WP1) of Advanced PTS Analysis for LTO (APAL) project https://www.apal-project.eu/). The attendees will get familiar with ordinary software tools and methods (deterministic and probabilistic) used for thermal hydraulics and fracture mechanics calculations. The attendees will understand the different steps of PTS assessment and their technical background. The basics of probabilistic\, thermal hydraulics\, system behavior and fracture mechanics will be taught in comprehensive lessons. \nMore information here.

SUMMARY:European School on Nuclear Materials Science
DESCRIPTION:The European School on Nuclear Materials Science will take place from 9 to 13 November 2020 at the Institut d’Etudes Scientifiques (IESC) in Cargèse\, Corsica\, France. It will focus on the nuclear materials science by addressing the multiscale modelling and characterization of materials phenomena in the nuclear materials science context. It will bring together world-leading scientists in topics ranging from advanced electronic structure theory to continuum modelling\, as well as sophisticated experimental characterization techniques to give the students the best possible toolbox for their future careers as nuclear materials scientists. All types of nuclear materials will be treated: structural (metallic and ceramics)\, functional and fuel materials.\n\nThe school is co-organised by the Horizon 2020 European projects INSPYRE\, GEMMA\, M4F and IL TROVATORE and supervised by the EERA-JPNM.\n \nFor more information please visit this website.
